About The Houston Artist Speaks Through Grids (THASTG)
Houston’s a series of grids. What makes H-Town different is its infamous lack of governance regarding land use. Squares on these urban grids have been conduits for the Houstonian imagination. THASTG explores grids through artwork that subverts its utilitarianism by repurposing them to center BIPOC experiences.
THASTG features literature, conversations, efforts, and resources by guest educators, professionals, community partners, and/or writers to better understand the history, current effects of, and futures through grids, such as urban planning, gentrification, and institutional racism in America. All materials will be as accessible as possible through captions, transcripts, and translations.
